FINANCIAL PROTECTION FOR YOUR FAMILY

FINANCIAL PROTECTION FOR YOUR FAMILY

Aside from protecting their homes and belongings from loss, homeowners policies provide residential property owners with personal liability protection. This coverage gives policyholders financial protection for bodily injury and property damage sustained by others for which policyholders and their families are legally responsible. In such cases, the insurance company defends policyholders and their families if they are sued, and pays damages to the injured person up to the limit of liability. Because dollar awards in such cases have the potential to go quite high, policyholders must make certain that their policy limits are adequate. If policyholders feel that they need coverage beyond the limits of their policy’s liability coverage, they can also purchase a personal liability umbrella policy.

NOTE: Personal liability insurance also includes Medical Payments to Others coverage, which pays for necessary medical expenses for guests who are accidentally injured on the policyholder’s property regardless of whether or not he or she is legally responsible.
